Do you want to help getting Madison's bike network into OpenStreetMap, the project that creates and distributes free geographic data for the world? Join us for this Mapathon where we will use official data from the Metropolitan Planning Organization and your local knowledge to add bike infrastructure data to OpenStreetMap.
OpenStreetMap data is being used by many applications and websites such as Strava or Craigslist. In addition, Places for Bikes is using OpenStreetMap for a rating system that assesses a city's "quality of their all-ages bike networks for every neighborhood or Census block." This data will be important for identifying Madison's low-stress bike network and the many gaps it still has. The current data in OpenStreetMap is not always a perfect representation on what bike facilities there are on the ground, and we want to improve the accuracy during the Mapathon.

Please joins us for the event and RSVP below! You don't have to have any experience with editing OpenStreetMap or other maps. We'll have tasks at every skill level. So if you're an OpenStreetMap pro, you're most welcome as well. There will be an introduction to mapping, and several experienced mappers will be availabel to guide you and answer any questions. If you can, please bring your own laptop computer, but there will also be plenty of workstations available at the venue.
And courtesy of Places for Bikes, there will be pizza!
If you don't already have one, please sign up for a free account on OpenStreetMap before the Mapathon.
